Each of the schools, in China, prepares students for admission to Canadian colleges and universities, with a very few going, to post-secondary institutions, in other countries. Colleges and universities, in Canada, are more confident in selecting students, when they understand the curriculum background the student’s transcript represents.
The three main considerations, affecting the curriculum, in China, are the fluency levels, of the students entering the programme, ensuring the content is culturally sensitive, and selecting courses that universities and colleges recognize, as preparation for post-secondary study.
Each of the schools has developed a strong, English as a Foreign Language programme, using the five levels, of ESL, and expectations, developed by the Ontario Ministry of Education.
One advantage, of the Ontario curriculum, is its flexibility. A teacher, in Toronto, will approach content somewhat differently, from a teacher, in Thunder Bay. Overall and specific expectations are the same. Skills are the same. Teachers, at an Ontario school, in China, understand the need, and learn how to adapt courses, to the country, in which they are teaching. Ontario teachers, in China, really begin to understand the need, and concept, of culturally sensitive curriculum.
Students are preparing themselves for a Western university or college education. The skills and outcomes are consistent, with Ontario expectations. Ontario courses are chosen, from the university (3U, 4U) and, college (3M, 4M) streams. Bond Schools International has studied the most common faculties, to which students have applied, over the years, and has chosen courses in English, Mathematics, Science and Business that provide a pathway, to graduation, in each discipline and success, at university or college, in Canada. Teachers are expected to provide students, with the skills necessary, for achieving success, in a Canadian post-secondary institution.
The cornerstone, of each school program is “Growing Success” – the Ontario Ministry document, prepared for teachers, in Ontario, reflecting the evaluation and assessment strategies, teachers must use, in Ontario schools.
